First International Workshop on AI-Enabled Data Trustees

The increasing importance of data sharing across industries and research fields has led to the rise of data trustees—neutral intermediaries that enable trustworthy, secure, and fair data exchanges. With the emergence of generative AI and large language models, new opportunities arise to strengthen these data trustees with intelligent capabilities for negotiation, compliance, and decision support.

This workshop aims to bring together researchers from information systems, computer science, and related disciplines to explore how AI-enabled data trustees can be designed, implemented, and evaluated. As a starting point, we will present the Data Share Advisor GPT, a conversational AI prototype that supports stakeholders in assessing data sharing processes. The workshop will then provide a forum for participants to discuss use cases, identify research challenges, and outline future research directions on the role of AI in data governance and data spaces.

Workshop Program

The half-day program combines invited input, a prototype demonstration, and interactive group discussions to foster exchange and collaboration:

Part 1: Input & Demonstration

AI for Trustworthy Data Sharing

  • Invited Talk: Insights on the state of research and practice in data trustees and data spaces, and the potential role of AI.
  • Prototype Demonstration: Live introduction of the Data Share Advisor GPT as an example of AI-enabled support for data trustees.
  • Discussion: Initial reflections on opportunities and limitations of using generative AI in sensitive data sharing contexts.

Part 2: Interactive Session

Co-Creating the Research Agenda

  • Use Case Exploration: Participants will work in groups to identify promising scenarios for AI-enabled data trustees (e.g., healthcare, manufacturing, mobility, sustainability).
  • Research Challenges: Joint identification of open questions in governance, transparency, accountability, and technical design.
  • Future Directions: Development of ideas for collaborative research and potential joint contributions (papers, projects, prototypes).

Who Can Participate

The workshop invites participation from:

  • Researchers in information systems, computer science, and data governance
  • PhD students and early-career researchers interested in AI and data spaces
  • Scholars working on trust, digital platforms, and governance of data ecosystems

Participation is open to anyone with an academic interest in AI-enabled data trustees and data sharing.
